Beltane

Beltane ist, neben Samhain, mein absolut liebstes Jahreskreisfest. Es ist ein Fest des Feuers, der Lebenskraft und Jugend und natürlich ein Fest der Liebe und Leidenschaft. Es wird wieder grün rundherum, viele Bäume stehen in voller Blüte, die Sonnenstrahlen wärmen und auch ältere Menschen fühlen sich jugendlich beschwingt. Romantik und Liebe liegen in der Luft und nicht umsonst ist der Mai auch der Hochzeitsmonat. 
In früheren Zeiten sprangen die verliebten Paare gemeinsam übers Beltane Feuer und gaben sich Versprechen der Liebe und Treue...zumindest für ein Jahr. Es war durchaus üblich, dass junge Leute erst eine "Ehe auf Probe" für ein Jahr eingingen, bevor sie die Entscheidung zur Heirat trafen.

Die Walpurgisnacht, die Nacht vom 30. April zum 1. Mai, wurde schon immer mit Hexen in Verbindung gebracht und viel wurde gemunkelt, dass die wilden, freifliegenden Weiber sich auf heiligen Plätzen, meist auf Bergen, Hügeln oder in Wäldern, trafen um gemeinsam ums Feuer zu tanzen. Wer weiss, vielleicht erschien zu solchen Treffen auch Cernunnos, der Herr des Waldes, der Tiere und der Elfen, da dies ja
auch sein Ehren- und Festtag ist. 

Es macht mir jedes Jahr viel Freude meinen Altar für diesen Festtag vorzubereiten und zu schmücken. Ich hole mir damit diese kraftvolle Energie in mein Heim.

Beltane is, along with Samhain, my absolute favorite festival of the year. It is a celebration of fire, vitality and youth and of course a celebration of love and passion. It's getting green all around again, many trees are in full bloom, the sun's rays are warming and even older people feel youthfully exhilarated. Romance and love are in the air and it is not for nothing that May is also the wedding month.

In the old days, couples in love jumped over the Beltane fire together and made vows of love and fidelity...at least for a year. It was quite common for young people to enter into a "trial marriage" for a year before making the decision to marry.

Walpurgis Night, the night from April 30th to May 1st, has always been associated with witches and it was widely rumored that the wild, free-flying women met in sacred places, usually on mountains, hills or in forests, to be together and dance around the fire. Who knows, maybe Cernunnos, the lord of the forest, animals and elves, also appeared at such meetings, since this is also his day of honor and celebration.

It gives me great pleasure every year to prepare and decorate my altar for this feast day. Celebrating this, I bring this powerful energy into my home.

Für den faltbaren Mini-Altar habe ich ein ca. A3 großes Blatt Aquarellpapier (ca. 300g/m schwer) nach innen zusammen gefaltet und in Grün- und Blautönen bemalt. Ins Zentrum habe ich meine Zeichnung von Cernunnos geklebt und mit einigen kleinen Details versehen.  :)

For the foldable mini-altar, I folded an approx. A3 piece of watercolor paper (approx. 300g/m2) inwards and painted it in shades of green and blue. In the center I glued my drawing of Cernunnos and added some small details. :)
